Three people, including two firefighters, were injured following a "suspicious" fire at an abandoned building on Barton Street East Monday night.

The Hamilton Fire Department says crews were called to an abandoned warehouse east of Kenora Avenue just after 11 p.m. and found a fully involved fire and a partially collapsed roof.

Firefighters began an "aggressive attack" and quickly knocked it down, according to a spokesperson.

The building was searched and no one was found inside, but a person suffering burns was found nearby shortly after police arrived.

They were transported to hospital, but are expected to survive, says the department. Two firefighters also suffered minor injuries.

"No one has been arrested and police do not believe there is a threat to the public," wrote Const. Jerome Stewart in an email.

Video from the scene shows crews spraying down the interior of a boarded-up building as smoke pours out and tossing what appears to be a propane tank out a window at one point.

Firefighters have been called to the same site several times in recent months for minor fires, according to the department.

The Office of the Fire Marshal and the police arson unit are investigating.
