Family emergency scam cheats Norfolk County resident out of $4K: police
Police in Norfolk County are warning residents to be vigilant to unsolicited calls after one resident lost four-thousand dollars worth of Apple gift cards in a phone scam.
Police say a homeowner received a phone call on Friday claiming their son was in custody following a car accident and needed four-thousand dollars to get him out on bail.
The payment was requested in Apple gift cards, which the homeowner purchased, sharing the identification number with the caller.
The resident called police after realizing that their son had not been in jail and was not involved in any accidents.
