Early morning side-swipe crash sends 1 car onto church steps and 2 to hospital

A two-vehicle crash around 1:50 a.m. Sunday sent two people to a hospital with life-threatening injuries.

A Trailblazer lost control and went off the road, ending up on the front perch of an Orthodox church

A two-vehicle crash around 1:50 a.m. Sunday sent two people to hospital with life-threatening injuries.

The crash happened at Barton St. E and Cope St.

Police say a Chevrolet Trailblazer with a man and a woman inside was traveling west on Barton St. when it sideswiped a Ford Flex heading east. 

The Trailblazer lost control and went off the road, hitting a fence and ended up on the steps of the St. Nicholas Serbian Orthodox Church, police said.

The people in the Trailblazer were taken to hospital in critical condition, and the man driving the Flex was also taken to hospital with minor injuries and later released.

The police Collision Reconstruction Unit is investigating the crash and is hoping anyone with information will call it in at 905-546- 4755 or anonymously through Crime Stoppers.
