Chocolate bars, bath salts seized during raids on illegal cannabis stores in Welland

The OPP say three men and one woman, all from Welland, were arrested and charged with five counts of possessing cannabis for the purpose of selling, five counts of possessing cannabis for the purpose of distributing and proceeds of a crime over $5,000.

Police seized cash, CBD oils, shatter and a host of other cannabis-related products from chocolate bars to bath salts during raids at illegal retailers in Welland this week.

Niagara Regional Police, along with officers from the OPP's Provincial Joint Forces Cannabis Enforcement Team, say they executed multiple warrants at cannabis stores Thursday.

The OPP say three men and one woman, all from Welland, were arrested and charged with five counts of possessing cannabis for the purpose of selling, five counts of possessing cannabis for the purpose of distributing and proceeds of a crime over $5,000.

Investigators say one of the men was also charged with possession of cocaine and a restricted weapon.

Here's a list of the items the OPP says were seized during the raids:

  • Cash and bill counters.
  • Cannabis, Hash, CBD/THC oils.
  •  Shatter, Cannabis seeds, Cannabis flower.
  •  Cannabis concentrates of chocolate bars/gummies/lotions/bath salts/hot chocolate/ice tea and CBD distillates, tincture.
  • Cocaine.
  • Tasers.
  • One motor vehicle.

In a media release the OPP says it will continue to work with local police forces to take on illegal cannabis stores.

"The focus of the strategy is to dismantle organized crime groups, eliminate the illegal cannabis supply, remove illegal cannabis enterprises such as store fronts and online, and target the proceeds of crime and assets," according to the release.
