Halton police arrested four people from Hamilton and one person from Burlington after an attempted kidnapping at gunpoint in Burlington.

Police say officers were called to a condominium near Fairview Street and Brant Street on March 18 around 8:15 p.m.

Three suspects had demanded cash and tried to abduct a man at gunpoint outside his apartment, according to police.

"The victim was forced to the lobby area and was assaulted, however he was able to escape to a security area and police were notified," reads a media release, adding the three suspects drove away.

"The bold and shocking nature of these crimes will not be tolerated in our community," stated Deputy Chief Roger Wilkie in the release.

Officers across the service worked to identify the "armed and dangerous" suspects, he added.

Police arrested a 23-year-old Hamilton man the next day. He faces the following charges:

  • Assault with a weapon.
  • Kidnapping using a firearm.
  • Possession of weapon for a dangerous purpose.
  • Use firearm while committing offence.

On March 25, police arrested a 38-year-old Burlington man, a 38-year-old Hamilton man, a 37-year-old Hamilton man and a 17-year-old from Hamilton.

They all face similar charges as the 23-year-old.

Police said the people from Hamilton were held in custody pending a bail hearing while the accused from Burlington was released with some conditions.

Officers added they found two guns and ammunition during the investigation.

Police believe the incident was targeted.
