A man is dead after Brantford police say the car left the roadway and crashed into Mohawk Lake.

On Saturday around 7:15 p.m. police say first responders were called to a serious single vehicle crash on Greenwich Street, south of Murray Street.

Officers found the car in Mohawk Lake. Investigators say the vehicle lost control, left the road and crashed into the water.

Brantford Fire Department found the driver, a 38-year-old Brantford man, who was transported to hospital and died.

He was the only person in the vehicle, police say.

The area of Greenwich Street between Murray Street and Mohawk Street was closed for several hours as the collision reconstruction unit investigated. All roadways are now open.

Anyone with information about the crash is asked to contact the Brantford Police Traffic Unit. Police say witnesses are encouraged to contact Constable Jeremy Morton at 519-756-0113 ext. 2869.
