Hamilton police have found a box of old bones someone stole from a car in Westdale last week.

Police say someone took a banker box of human remains from a parked car on either Halloween or Nov. 1.

The two sets of lower leg bones were from the 1800s, and were small and covered with dirt. They were dug up from a North York construction site at an old church. An archeologist was taking them to a secure facility.

Someone in Oxford County found the bones on Nov. 7 in an abandoned vehicle with stolen plates. Oxford County OPP's community street crime unit called Hamilton police Thursday to let them know.

Police will give the box back to the archeologist, says Const. Lorraine Edwards. And all the bones are still there.

"Everything seems to be intact," she said.

Whoever stole the bones also stole a Dewalt Sawzall power tool and a cell phone charger. Oxford police are still investigating.
