A Hamilton man is facing several charges after a woman was allegedly shot in the face with a BB gun in central Hamilton Tuesday.

The incident happened just after 4 p.m. That's when police answered a weapons call in the area of Cannon Street East and Victoria Avenue North.

Police say the caller described some sort of altercation between two men, where one man allegedly pointed some sort of gun at the other.

Once they got to the scene, officers found a male and female victim. The woman had been hit in the face with a BB, police say.

"It's believed the projectile grazed her. That's what we believe possibly happened," Const. Jerome Stewart said.

She was treated and cleared by an ambulance crew at the scene.

Officers then tracked down a suspect believed to be responsible at a nearby home. Police say they seized a BB gun and ammunition from the home.

A 28-year-old Hamilton man is now facing charges of two counts of assault with a weapon, carrying a concealed weapon, and uttering threats to cause death or bodily harm.
