Haitian community holds special church service for the governor general-designate

Montreal's Haitian community held a special church service for the appointment of Governor General designate Michaëlle Jean.

Montreal's Haitian community held a special church service for the appointment of governor general-designate Michaëlle Jean.

The service comes after a recent poll indicated a 20 per cent drop in support for Michaëlle Jean as Canada's Governor General. Support dropped after allegations that Michaëlle Jean, and her husband filmmaker Jean-Daniel Lafond, were sympathetic to Quebec sovereignty.

Church service organizers wanted to give thanks for the historic appointment because it sends a message of hope, courage and perseverance to all cultural communities in Canada. More than 300 people showed up at the event.
