Vancouver Police have launched a new coordinated initiative to combat marijuana grow operations. Growbusters will target landlords as well as those actually growing hydroponic marijuana

Police officers, fire crews, city staff, B.C. Hydro and B.C. Gas will all work together to shut down homes that house marijuana grow operation.

Gas and power will be shut off, and the house will be sealed until the owner can renovate it to make it liveable again. The landlord would then have to pay about $500 to get the house re-opened.

The idea is to stop grow operations from re-surfacing in the same location soon after they are shut down.

There are an estimated 4000 marijuana grow operations in Vancouver. They admit shutting them down will simply move the problem to other municipalities.
