Elizabeth May stages hunger strike on Parliament Hill
Environmentalist Elizabeth May is on a hunger strike on Parliament Hill. The head of the Sierra Club of Canada wants the federal government to move people living near Sydney's toxic coke ovens site.
Recent tests show levels of arsenic, benzene and heavy metals are above accepted guidelines. Longtime tar pond resident Ann Ross says she supports May, and hopes the hunger strike moves the feds to action.Related Link: Sierra Club of Canada
So far, the provincial government has refused to move people despite many protests and several hunger strikes. Nova Scotia's Chief Medical officer says test results show no immediate health risks.
Elizabeth May says she'll stay on Parliament Hill until she gets a commitment from the Federal government to move people.
