U of A's Carl Amrhein named official administrator for AHS

Dr. Carl Amrhein has been named as Alberta Health Services’ new official administrator for the next seven months.

Dr. Carl Amrhein, provost and vice-president of the University of Alberta, was named Monday the new official administrator for Alberta Health Services until June 30, 2015.

Amrhein, who will be responsible for providing governance oversight of AHS, will work with Alberta Health and will report to Health Minister Stephen Mandel.

“Dr. Amrhein brings with him a wealth of experience from one of Canada’s most prestigious post-secondary institutions,” said Mandel in a news release.

“With his appointment, Albertans can be assured that health-care services of the highest quality will continue being delivered across the province by skilled and dedicated health-care professionals and staff.”

Amrhein resigned his administrative roles at the University of Alberta effective Monday.

The university said that he will return to his position as a geography professor after taking his seven-month administrative leave to take the position with AHS.

Janet Davidson, the current official administrator for AHS, will return to her role as the deputy minister of Alberta Health.
