A barn in Sturgeon County was destroyed by fire Monday evening.

Morinville RCMP Cpl. Sheldon Robb said police were called shortly after 5 p.m. to a structure fire north of Edmonton near Namao, Alta. No people or animals were injured but the barn itself would be "a total loss," he said.

Robb said the fire was under control as of 9 p.m.

The cause is unknown but there was no indication of criminal involvement, he said.

Several fire departments responded to the call. Edmonton Fire Rescue spokesperson Matt Pretty said a barn and grain silo were reportedly on fire but Sturgeon County was leading the event.
