A Spruce Grove mother who captured hearts across the country died over the weekend after a long fight with cancer.

Julie Crawford died peacefully Friday night in hospital, surrounded by her family.

The 34-year-old spent the past five years battling stage-three melanoma.

In January, she travelled to Toronto to undergo a last-chance treatment that is not offered in Alberta.

The treatment failed, and while in Ontario, her condition worsened.

Her final wish was to be medevaced home to be with her son on his seventh birthday.

A gofundme campaign raised more than $60,000 to make that happen.

Crawford flew home last Wednesday, and celebrated her son's birthday at the Cross Cancer Centre in Edmonton.

She spent two days with family before she died.

The Crawford family posted this photo on the gofundme page called Getting Julie Home. (gofundme)
