SpiderMable 'a tired superhero' after epic day
Mable Tooke to drop puck at Edmonton Oilers preseason game tonight
Wee webslinger Mable Tooke called herself "a tired superhero," a day after rescuing the captain of the Edmonton Oilers from the evil clutches of arch villain Mysterio.
Mable, a.k.a., SpiderMable is battling leukemia.
On Monday, The Children's Wish Foundation along with the Oilers, the city, Edmonton Police Service and a host of others helped make Mable's heartfelt wish to work alongside Spiderman come true.
Mable did not know anything was up, but when her mother Lisa Tooke awoke her Monday she sensed something was different.
"Mom just woke me up early," she told Edmonton AM's Mark Connolly. "I knew something was happening."
The elaborate city-wide caper was in the works for two months, said Mable's father, Neil Tooke.
Even then "this was beyond our wildest dreams," he said.
Tooke was especially impressed by the efforts from the Oilers players such as Andrew Ference and Connor McDavid.
"They played it well," he said. "Wow. Once they retire I think a number of them have an acting (career)."
For Mable the highlight of the day was meeting her hero.
"He's just like me. He's funny. He's got a pretty good sense of humour."
Mable's foray into the super hero world isn't quite finished yet.
While she put Mystero on ice yesterday, tonight she will be at centre ice herself when she drops the puck at the Oilers game at Rexall Place.
