Silly Summer Parade ending after 25 years
A lack of participation has prompted the Old Strathcona Foundation to cancel its annual Canada Day Silly Summer Parade.
The parade has run along Whyte Avenue for the past 25 years. Executive director Karen Tabor says the event is costly to produce and the number of entries have gone down. "I think one of the struggles is that it is a holiday, so July 1st is a bit of a hurdle for people to be able to get other volunteers or even paid staff to come out and play on that day," she said.
Tabor says there will be plenty of other events in Old Strathcona on Canada Day.
She says the foundation could help if another group wants to take over the parade.
