Sexual assault in north Edmonton, police look for suspect

Police are looking for suspect after a 21-year-old woman was attacked in a north Edmonton neighbourhood Tuesday night.

Young woman dragged into alley and sexually assaulted, police say

“To approach somebody in public on the street and drag them into an alley and assault them in this way is deeply concerning to the police but I'm sure to the public as well,” says Staff Sgt. Shawna Grimes. (CBC)

Police are looking for suspect after a 21-year-old woman was sexually assaulted in a north Edmonton neighbourhood Tuesday night.

The woman was walking near 101st Street and 128th Avenue at about 8 p.m. when an armed man dressed in dark clothing approached her from behind and forced her into an alley.

The man sexually assaulted the woman before fleeing, said Staff Sgt. Shawna Grimes with the sexual assault section of the Edmonton Police Service.

“We have some concerns about the violence in this attack and the fact that a stranger would grab somebody off the street and commit this type of attack,” she said.

The woman ran to a home in the area and police were called.

Grimes called it a serious attack and said the woman was taken to hospital with injuries. She has since been released from hospital.

The suspect is described as a man in his mid 20s, of average height and weighing 160 lbs.
