Senior missing in Bashaw found safe
Maria Abutal, 85, was recently moved from Calgary to Bashaw because of flooding
A senior who was recently moved to an assisted living home in Bashaw because of flooding in Calgary has been found one day after she went missing.
Maria Abutal, 85, didn’t return to the Bashaw Valley Lodge after going for a walk around 9 a.m. She was found in a farmer's field Wednesday. While she is dehydrated, she is reportedly healthy and unhurt.
RCMP Const. Chris D'Arcy said that extra resources were brought in to find her.
"We've had two police dog teams searching, brought in extra RCMP assets and we’re canvassing the town," he said.
"Search and rescue from numerous towns have all chipped in and are searching. We've also had two aircraft -- one RCMP aircraft and a civilian search and rescue aircraft -- they’ve been patrolling the air for approximately 10 hours."
Abutal was one of 30 seniors who were moved to Bashaw after their residence in Calgary was flooded.
