Red Deer crash kills 2
RCMP in Red Deer, Alta., say alcohol was a factor in a crash that killed two people early Sunday morning.
Police say the collision happened at about 2:00 a.m. local time at the intersection of Ironstone Drive and 30 Avenue.
A 35-year-old woman and a 34-year-old man, both from Red Deer, were pronounced dead at the scene.
The pair was travelling in the same car and police say they are related but their names won't be released until next of kin have been notified.
The lone occupant of the other vehicle, a 22-year-old man from Sedalia, Alta., is in custody and police expect charges will be laid.
Alcohol was a factor in the collision, police said.
The deaths are the first traffic fatalities in Red Deer since 2008.
