An 18-year-old man drowned in a lake northeast of Edmonton on Saturday.

The man's body was found by underwater camera; dive crew sent to recover body

An 18-year-old man drowned in a lake northeast of Edmonton on Saturday.

The man was with friends on Whitefish Lake on the Kikino Métis Settlement just south of Lac La Biche around 1:30 p.m.

He jumped off an inflatable raft and started swimming but got into difficulty and didn't resurface, police said in a news release.

RCMP, Kikino Fire Services, Alberta Parks and Lac La Biche Fire all searched for the man's body Saturday without success.

On Sunday morning, Search and Rescue personnel using an underwater camera located the body.

A dive team has been dispatched to the area to recover the body.

The RCMP investigation into the cause of the man's death will continue in conjunction with the chief medical examiner.

Whitefish Lake is about 180 kilometres northeast of Edmonton.
