Police charge man in downtown groping case
Edmonton police have charged a man they believe is responsible for groping women downtown over the past week.
The man, 39, was arrested near 103rd Street and 103rd Avenue around 9 p.m. Wednesday after police watched him follow a woman for several blocks near Grant MacEwan University.
The man is charged with three counts of sexual assault, possession of stolen property under $5,000, illegal possession of government documents and possessing credit card data. More charges are pending, police said.
Police released an image of a suspect Wednesday after there were nine attacks on women in the area bordered by 102nd and 107 Streets and Jasper and 104th Avenues.
All the alleged assaults took place during the day and evening. Police said the suspect approached women from behind, groped them and then fled.
Several more people came forward with complaints after police went public with the case.
