A 22-year-old Nova Scotia man has been stabbed to death in Jasper, Alberta after a fight early Saturday morning.

A 22-year-old Nova Scotia man was stabbed to death in Jasper, Alta., during a fight early Saturday.

Sgt. Dave Maludzinski, the RCMP detachment commander in Jasper, said his officers were called to a stabbing at a hotel at 4 a.m.

They found Kenzie John Beaton with a stab wound in his lower abdomen. Cody Kyle Jensen, 21, of Edmonton was arrested at the hotel and charged with second-degree murder.

"We arrested [the] accused right at the scene," Maludzinski said Monday.

The men were apparently in separate hotel rooms and had gotten into an altercation.

Beaton was airlifted to an Edmonton hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

"As far as my understanding goes, they were strangers," Maludzinski said. "I extend my condolences to the family of the victim."

Beaton, from Mabou in Inverness County, was living in Edson, Alta., after moving west to work.

Jensen remains in custody and will appear in Jasper provincial court on Feb. 9.

An autopsy is scheduled for Monday.
