Extreme cold warning issued for parts of northern Alberta

Environment Canada has issued an extreme cold warning for Fort McMurray and other areas of northern Alberta. According to the agency, the wind chill will make temperatures feel as cold as –40 C Sunday morning.

The temperature will feel like –30 C with the wind chill Sunday afternoon.

The temperature is expected to rise slightly Sunday afternoon, and will feel like –30 C with the wind chill.

Residents are reminded to dress for the weather, as frostbite can develop within minutes on skin exposed to extreme cold. 

Monday's forecast for Fort McMurray is a high of –10 C, but it will feel like –32 C with the wind chill.

The area is expected to warm up on Tuesday, with a high of –2 C.
