New site searched for missing Alberta couple
The family of Alberta seniors Lyle and Marie McCann, who disappeared almost a year ago, have met with RCMP officials to get an update on the most recent search for the missing couple.
RCMP officers and a search-and-rescue team swept an area near Lodgepole, southwest of Edmonton, on Sunday, looking for the St. Albert couple.
They were last seen gassing up their motorhome in July 2010 prior to heading on a trip to B.C.
The search has been wrapped up, but police are not saying publicly what they were looking for or what led investigators to the site, said Sgt. Tim Taniguchi.
The McCann's burned out RV was found near Edson two days after the couple left St. Albert. The SUV they were towing was found abandoned several days later.
The RCMP has named Travis Vader, an Alberta man, as a suspect in the case, but no charges related to the McCann investigation have been laid against him.
Vader remains in custody on unrelated charges.
