Memorial service held for Edmonton house fire victim
Police believe death was criminal
A memorial service will be held Friday afternoon for the Edmonton woman who died in a house fire on the last day of 2011.
Rukmani Prasad, 60, is being remembered by members of Edmonton's Fijian community.
On the day before New Year's, firefighters discovered the badly burned body of the mother of two in a second floor bedroom of the family home in northeast Edmonton.
Police believe the death is criminal, but so far have not laid any charges.
The victim's husband was outside the house - suffering from burns to nearly two-thirds of his body.
The couple was alone in the house when the fire broke out, said police.
Suendra Prasad remains in the University Hospital Intensive Care burn unit. He's in critical condition in a medically induced coma.
