A passing motorist captured a video of a fiery crash between a diesel truck and an SUV 6:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Kris Topher shot the video shortly after the crash south of Fort McMurray.

The police investigation and damage to the road from the crash closed Highway 63 at Highway 881 for almost 12 hours.

RCMP say both drivers survived.

"Both drivers did walk away with only minor injuries," said Const. Ashley Quallie. "We are very surprised by that. Just the fuel that was spilled."

"I'm not exactly sure what the point of impact was to each vehicle, but we're very happy with the outcome that no one was hurt more seriously than they were."

The crash was one of three serious collisions along Highway 63 in the last 24 hours, including a crash around 3 a.m. this morning when a semi ran into a parked pickup, resulting in minor injuries.

RCMP are at a loss for an explanation, other than the increased volume due to the Canada Day holiday.
