Crews worked around the clock to get West Edmonton Mall ready for the Christmas season.

Twelve semi-trailers trucked in a million dollars worth of lights, trees, ornaments and poinsettias to Edmonton's biggest mall.

"We have teams that work all night hanging all the atrium lighting all the stuff from the ceiling," said Ken Christensen, visual arts manager at West Edmonton Mall.

"And then there's day crews that are here fluffing, decorating and putting it out on the floor."

Christensen's team put up 300 kilometers of lights inside the mall, enough to reach from here to Calgary.

As for the artistic vision, the visual arts manager says he went with a less extravagant theme.

"This year we really wanted to pull back on blasting everything with bows and ribbon. We wanted to have more of a modern clean look to let our retailers shine and all their great products they have this year," said Christensen.

"It's very gratifying at the end when you can see your vision brought to life."
