Two men are in hospital with serious, but non-life-threatening, injuries after an explosion at a home in south Edmonton Tuesday.

Police were called to the home at 58th Street and 18th Avenue SW just after 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday.

Police remain unclear about what caused the explosion and the circumstances leading up to it.

They're also uncertain if the explosion is criminal in nature.

Houses nearby were evacuated and a one-block radius around the scene was blocked off as a precaution, police say.

The extent of the damage to the home is also still under investigation.
