Drivers clocked for speeding while a photo radar operator was allegedly asleep at the wheel will not get a ticket from the city of Edmonton.

A picture surfaced online this week showing a man with his eyes closed reclining in a parked vehicle at Jasper Avenue and 87th Street.

Gerry Shimko, executive director of the office of public safety, said the city is investigating.

He says there could be legitimate medical reasons for the man to be sleeping.

"Yes there is a picture. but there's always two sides to every story," he said. "We want to make sure we get both sides of the story and we use an evidence-based process to get there."

The city contracts photo radar to private companies. The man has been suspended pending the outcome of the investigation.
