Nextfest: Edmonton’s Emerging Arts Festival Goes Online to Celebrate a Fresh Crop of Brand New Works (Nextfest)

The Nextfest Arts Company is changing things up this year, ushering in 11 days of creative newness and experimentation ... all from a safe physical distance.

The 25th annual emerging arts festival will take place completely online this year. Join emerging artists from Edmonton and Alberta online for music, film, dance, theatre and more. Log on at home for 11 days of digital creation and experimentation, June 4-14.

Bringing together more than 450 artists across a wide range of artistic disciplines, Nextfest moves from venues in and around Old Strathcona to the world wide web to continue cultivating the next generation of movers, shakers, makers, and creators. (Nextfest )

New this year:

  • All Nextfest performances and workshops will be held on Twitch as this band of artistic up-and-comers extend their reach to an audience larger than ever before. You can watch everything at
  • Everything is free. All programming and performances will be presented at no cost. All you need is an Internet connection and a comfy seat to enjoy the more than 50 arts events.
  • The Nextfest workshop series is back for its third year. All workshops will be held online to help emerging artists build skills, refine practices and engage in critical discussions around the business of art.
