Treat your dad to something festive for Father's Day on Sunday.
 What: Looking for something to do tonight to get your weekend started out right? Latitude 53 is hosting its first weekly patio get-together tonight in celebration of community and art. With special local guests and brews on hand, this may become a weekly tradition for you. Up this week is music by  DJ Freshlan, photography by Kyler Seleny and food from The Underground. Admission is free.

When? June 12 from 5 to 9 p.m.

Are you achin’ for some bacon?

What: Have a hankering for ham? A belly for bacon? Jonesing for jerky? Well, look no further than Porkapalooza an epic BBQ fiesta topped off with live entertainment and music. The festival of all things porcine will take place all weekend at Hawrelak Park, which tasty pork dishes and others on the offer.  A full list of vendors and entertainers is available hereShuttle service will be available. Here’s a video to get you in the mood.

When? June 13 from 5:30 to 9:30 p.m., June 14 from noon to 11 p.m., June 15 from 8 a.m. to 11 p.m.

Go down to the river

What: Cast off your shackles and become a river dog for the day on Saturday for River Day! Start the day off right with a pancake breakfast at Rundle Park, and then spend the day learning to fish, paddle a voyageur canoe and try an introductory kayaking, canoeing or stand-up paddleboarding lesson for just $10. 

When? June 14 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Be Italian for a day

Preparations are under way for the Italian Centre's 55th birthday party this Saturday. Go for the food, stay for the Italy vs. England game! (Facebook)
What: The Italian Centre in Little Italy (also known as my spiritual homeland) is celebrating its 55th birthday this weekend with food, fun and friendly competition as attendants cheer on their team in the England vs. Italy World Cup game, which will be broadcast live on a big screen at Caboto Park. 

When? Starts at noon on June 14; kick-off is at 4 p.m.

Father’s Day

What: Don’t forget about Dad this weekend! Here’s a list of papa-friendly events around the city:

  • The Do it for Dads Walk Run is a fun, family-friendly event, that aims to raise awareness and funds for prostate cancer.
