Four people are dead after a head-on collision on an icy stretch of Highway 21 near Leduc.

RCMP were called to Highway 21 between Airport Road and Highway 625 around 10:50 a.m  Saturday.

A Saturn Ion carrying four people, two men and two women, was travelling north on Highway 21 when it hit an icy patch on the road and lost control.

The car slid into the southbound lane and slammed into a tractor trailer, killing all four occupants upon impact. The driver of the tractor trailer was not injured.

RCMP say road conditions were a factor in the collision.

A portion of Highway 21 was closed on Saturday, but it has since reopened.
