Dangerous offender hearing in Quesnel
What could be a precedent setting case gets underway in Quesnel today. The Crown wants 17 year old Adam Laboucan declared a dangerous offender.
Adam Laboucan was 15 when he sexually assaulted a three-month-old boy. He was raised to adult court, and in April of last year, he entered a guilty plea in a case the Crown has described as "brutal".
RCMP Corporal Gary Clark-Marlow is the police officer who originally investigated the case. He didn't want to speak about specifics. But says the Crown's decision highlights the serious nature of the crime.
"The very fact that it is going to a dangerous offender application with such a young person certainly is indicative of what society, certainly what the Crown feels the situation warrants. That in of itself speaks volumes," said Corporal Clark-Marlow.
Adam Laboucan is believed to be the youngest Canadian to face a Dangerous Offender hearing.
