The culprits pose as Enmax representatives and tell business owners, mainly of restaurants, they must pay an outstanding bill immediately or have their power shut off.
Victims are told to pay with a prepaid debit or credit card and provide the information over the phone.
The offenders have been leaving a 1-888 number for victims to call that features a recorded segment of Enmax's opening message for its customer service.
But the call is directed to the scammers' phone.
Police say they are aware of 130 attempts at this scam and 11 victims have come forward.
Victims of these crimes are encouraged to call the police non-emergency line at 403-266-1234.
