Calgary police are investigating after someone smashed a pickup truck into the front doors of a downtown courthouse.

It happened at about 4 a.m. MT on Monday morning at the southeast corner of the Calgary Courts Centre on Fifth Street and Sixth Avenue S.W.

Police took one man into custody. Officials believe he smashed into the building deliberately.

"He’s well-known to police — this isn’t something that surprises us. At this point we’re just doing our investigation," said Duty Insp. Guy Baker.

The man could face numerous charges including dangerous driving, mischief, obstruction of justice and disrupting government business.

Court proceedings should not be affected, officials said.
