Pride Parade draws thousands to downtown Calgary
Premier Alison Redford will be first Alberta premier to walk in the parade
Thousands of people packed the streets of downtown Calgary today for this year's Pride Parade.
More than 35,000 people attended the event last year and the official numbers are expected to be even higher this year.
The parade is also making history — Premier Alison Redford is taking part, marking the first time an Alberta Premier has done so.
CBC Calgary is also joining the celebration with a float in the parade and about 20 staff members will be taking part.
The Calgary Eyeopener's David Gray and Angela Knight will be there, as will The Homestretch's Doug Dirks.
A festival will follow the parade and takes place Sunday afternoon at Shaw Millenium Park.
