A complaint about an impaired driver led Canmore RCMP to the discovery of about $250,000 worth of drugs, police say.

Responding to reports of a possible drunk driver in the mountain town, officers detained a 27-year-old man inside a bar on Sept. 10 for questioning.

Police said when they discovered the man was carrying a prescription pill bottle filled with cocaine they placed him under arrest.

The suspect also had ketamine, Xanax and Valium with him, police said.

Inside the man’s vehicle officers found over 500 grams cocaine, almost 900 grams of ecstasy, over 1,300 grams of other drugs as well as pills and drug paraphernalia.

The suspect has been charged with numerous drugs offences and will appear in Canmore provincial court later this month, police said.
