Outbreaks have been declared on three units at the Peter Lougheed Centre in northeast Calgary.

According to Kerry Williamson, a spokesperson with Alberta Health Services, three units are currently under outbreak investigation at the hospital:

  • A hematology unit, where one patient has tested positive for COVID-19. One death is associated with the outbreak, which was declared on Oct. 16.
  • A cardiology unit, where two patients have tested positive for COVID-19.
  • A transition unit, where one patient has tested positive for COVID-19.

No health-care workers have tested positive at this point, according to Williamson.

Various hospitals across the province have been hit hard by COVID-19.

An outbreak at Misericordia Community Hospital in Edmonton led to 11 deaths, and Calgary's Foothills Hospital is dealing with its own ongoing outbreak.

The number of confirmed patient cases connected to the Foothills outbreak remains at 47, and no new deaths were reported Friday.

In addition, AHS said Friday that more than 90 per cent of the health-care workers who had been restricted due to the outbreaks were now able to return to work.

"All services at the Foothills Medical Centre remain in place," AHS said in a statement.
