Man dies after fight at downtown Calgary apartment

A man is dead and a suspect is in custody after a violent altercation at a downtown Calgary apartment on Tuesday night.

Incident happened in the 600 block of 5th Avenue S.W.

A man is dead and a suspect is in custody after a violent altercation at a downtown Calgary apartment on Tuesday night.

Police were called to the 600 block of Fifth Avenue S.W. at about 9:45 p.m. for reports of a fight between two men, said a release.

Inside the apartment, officers found a man in life-threatening condition. He was taken to hospital and later died of his injuries.

Three people who were in the residence were taken into custody. Two of them were later released, while one is still in custody.

The homicide unit has taken over the investigation.

An autopsy is scheduled for Wednesday.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call police or contact Crime Stoppers.
