A Calgary hip-hop artist has released a music video about the city's independent music scene that features cameos from Mayor Naheed Nenshi and singer Jann Arden.

Dan Bennett, known as Transit, wrote the song because he said he wanted to tell people that Calgary is about more than cowboy boots and Conservative politicians.

"That is an aspect of the city and that's part of our culture," he said. "What I am trying to show is that we are not all cowboys and there is a huge sub-genre of independent music coming out."

The song includes mentions of 30 Calgary bands and musicians. Arden sings in the chorus and the mayor has a cameo in the video.

Bennett connected with Arden through CBC and got in touch with Nenshi on the social networking site Twitter.
