Calgarian charged with impaired driving in fatal highway crash

A Calgary man has been charged with impaired driving after a fatal crash near Oyen, Alta., on Sunday.

A Calgary man has been charged with impaired driving after a fatal crash near Oyen, Alta., on Sunday.

RCMP said at 9 p.m. they responded to an SUV rollover near the intersection of Highway 9 near Range Road 50.

Injured in the crash were a man, 33, seated in the back of the SUV and another male passenger, 31, seated in the front.

They were taken to hospital, where the 33-year-old later died.

Driver Sompasong Rattanathongsay, 30, was arrested and charged with:

  • Impaired operation of a motor vehicle causing death.
  • Impaired operation of a motor vehicle causing bodily harm.
  • Impaired operation of a motor vehicle.

He was released by a justice and is set to appear in provincial court in Hanna on Feb. 27.
