Disaster assistance offered for summer storms

City and provincial officials are offering Calgarians who suffered non-insurable damage in two storms last summer a chance to apply for disaster assistance money.
City and provincial officials are offering Calgarians who suffered non-insurable damage in two storms last summer a chance to apply for disaster assistance money.

The program will compensate for overland flooding and groundwater seepage that happened because of severe weather on July 20 and July 26, 2010, officials said in a release.

The provincial Disaster Recovery Program is being coordinated by the city through the Calgary Emergency Management Agency.

"Disaster recovery programs are designed to provide financial assistance for those items essential for day-to-day living that are not covered already by property insurance," the written release said.

Applicants can register at the Cedarbrae Community Hall at 11024 Oakfield Dr. S.W. on:

  • Friday, Feb. 25 from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.
  • And on Saturday, Feb. 26  from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Applicants who can't attend in person can call 1-888-671-1111, or 311, or go to calgary.ca/cema.
