A cougar has been spotted in Fish Creek Provincial Park in Calgary.

On Monday, Alberta Parks issued a cougar warning for the Votier's Flats and Shannon Terrace Day Use Areas.

Votier's Flats is located south of the community of Canyon Meadows, while Shannon Terrace is located at the south end of Woodpath Road, south of Woodbine. Both areas offer firepits, picnic tables and pathways.

The advisory suggested that to avoid an encounter with a cougar, visitors should:

  • Make plenty of noise and travel in groups.
  • Be aware of their surroundings.
  • Keep pets on leash.

More cougar safety information, as well as the hotline for reporting sightings, can be found on the Alberta Parks' website
