The city of Calgary is trying to shorten wait times for taxis around the Stampede grounds after receiving numerous complaints from the public.

Early Stampede-goers have complained about waiting hours for a cab.

The city says effective immediately, it is adding five new taxi zones near the grounds at:

  • Erlton Stampede Station
  • Victoria Park Stampede Station (15 Avenue S.E.)
  • Olympic Way (14 Avenue S.E.)
  • 12 Avenue (between Olympic Way and 3 Street S.E.)
  • 25 Avenue (east of Spiller Road S.E.)

The locations are marked with signs, and provide safe and easily accessible points for cabs to pick-up and drop-off customers.

To date, the 100th anniversary of the Calgary Stampede has welcomed a record number of visitors.
