City approves $17M for ring road stormwater line replacement
Current stormwater line must be abandoned due to ring road construction
A city council committee has approved spending $17 million to replace a stormwater trunk line.
Construction of the southwest ring road is forcing the city to abandon the current line, which drains water from the Mount Royal University area to the Elbow River west of the city limits.
It will be replaced by a new line running under 37 Street and finishing at the Elbow River in the Weaselhead.
The province has agreed to reimburse the city for the cost of the work since the ring road is a provincial responsibility.
The new line must be completed by July 2016. The city has released a map of the project, which is posted below. On mobile? Click here.
