Police are investigating after a woman's body was found on a rural road near Chestermere, Alta.

RCMP are investigating after a woman's body was found on a rural road in Alberta.

Police are investigating after a woman's body was found on a rural road near Chestermere, Alta.

RCMP said on Friday they were notified that human remains had been found on the road, west of the city.

The body has been taken to the Calgary medical examiner's office, and an autopsy is scheduled for Monday.

Police said the identity of the person isn't known, but it's believed the victim is a Caucasian woman. 

The major crimes unit is investigating. 

Chestermere is located a few kilometres east of Calgary.
