Calgary Transit is now in the 21st century after launching a new app.

The Calgary Transit App lets customers know exactly where buses and trains are in real time, and how long it will be until they arrive at their stop. It is available for both iPhone and Android users and its free for download from iTunes or the Google Play Store.

Doug Morgan, Calgary Transit director, says there's a lot of demand for the new technology.

"We see these apps are very popular; they're very timely. They run on your phone, they approach the stop, it gives the information right away."

Starting this fall, the data will be available to third-party developers. Anyone who wants to try to make a better app, will be able to do so.
