Calgary police seek suspect after midday carjacking in Westmount
Woman was approached from behind by a man carrying a screwdriver
Calgary police are looking for a suspect after a midday carjacking in the inner-city neighbourhood of Westmount on Wednesday.
The victim was sitting in her vehicle, on 16th Street between Westmount Road and Bowness Road N.W., just before 1 p.m., when a man opened the driver's side door of her red 2003 Mitsubishi Outlander.
The woman told police that the man had approached from behind and was holding a screwdriver.
She described the carjacker as a Caucasian man in his 20s, blond and approximately six feet tall. He wore a camouflage bandana, shorts and a black tank top with white letters, and had a khaki backpack.
He told the victim to get out of the car, and she did not resist.
The man got in the Mitsubishi and drove off in the direction of Memorial Drive.
The Calgary Police Service provided a photo of the same make and model of the red Mitsubishi. The licence plate on the stolen vehicle is BXD 1386.
Calgary police issued a reminder to the public that the woman did the right thing in quickly exiting the car, and said anyone in a similar situation should do the same, and call police as soon as possible.
