Zoolights, Santa Claus & Beethoven: Calgary entertainment this weekend
Mr. Claus will be making several appearances around the province
The mercury may be dropping this weekend but there's lots to do in Calgary's arts and entertainment scene so here's our weekly roundup.
ACAD show and sale
The Alberta College of Art and Design (ACAD) is hopping with all kinds of art-related activities starting tonight.
You may not find a Picasso for sale at ACAD this weekend, but there will be tons of art from all matter of up-and-coming Alberta artists — and it's not just paintings.
There are 3,000 handmade pieces, including photographs, drawings, prints, ceramics, glass, fibre, jewellery, sculpture and more.
The November edition of this biannual Students' Association Show and Sale starts Thursday, with their ticketed First Night Fundraiser from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.
The sale itself continues Friday and Saturday. Entrance is by donation at the door.

Altra Volta, the seven-voice a cappella vocal ensemble, is celebrating 20 years this Sunday with a concert full of songs they've made amazing throughout their career.
They're doing it at Decidedly Jazz Danceworks at 4 p.m.

For something a little different, the Calgary Youth Orchestra are performing Beethoven's master work, the Ninth Symphony, in the Bella Concert Hall on Saturday.
And they've got the Mount Royal Conservatory's Kantorei joining them, so it will be a great show.

Zoolights launches Friday night with more than two million lights and 200 displays, complete with firepits and lots of fun.
And if you haven't seen the pandas yet, it's a two-for-one.
Zoolights runs until Jan. 5.
Here are all the details.
Santa Claus arrives in Strathmore this weekend, among other locations.
The town has its Spirit of Christmas, which starts Friday with a downtown Christmas market. It includes firepits, hay rides, hot chocolate and a traditional tree lighting.
You can join Santa for breakfast at the Strathmore Legion on Saturday. Later that afternoon, the Santa Claus parade gets underway at 5 p.m., which is followed by Light Up the Night at the Strathmore Ag Grounds.
And if that's not enough of the big guy in red, you can skate with Santa on Sunday at the Strathmore Family Centre.

Mr. Claus will also make an appearance in Fort Macleod in the 37th Annual Santa Claus Parade.
Some call it the largest parade of its kind west of Toronto, with around 100 floats, marching bands and a lot more.
It all starts at 11 a.m. on Main Street and here's what you need to know.
The Spruce Meadows Christmas Market runs Friday through Sunday if you want to get a jump on your gift buying.
Getting there is easy with a free shuttle bus from the Somerset–Bridlewood LRT station starting at 9 a.m.
