Bowness celebrates with street festival, bike race
A Calgary community badly damaged during the floods set aside reconstruction work to celebrate Monday.
Vendors set up stalls for the third annual Bowness Heritage Day Street Festival, filling the neighbourhood's main street with music and people.
Parts of Bowness were badly flooded when the Bow River overflowed its banks in June.
Peter Reitz, a spokesman with the Bowness Community Association, said Monday was about bringing people together.
"All the demo has been done, now it's just a matter of standing behind people and supporting them as much as we can," he said.
The crowd was enthusiastic as cyclists also raced through the streets of Bowness on Monday. The 12th Annual Tour de Bowness was held over the long weekend in Bowness, Canada Olympic Park and near Cochrane.
